Manukau Performing Arts has been part of the Papatoetoe and wider Auckland community since its invention over 50 years ago. Originally known as the Papatoetoe Music Club when first formed in 1954, the group held weekly club nights and performed annual concerts. In 1960 the club produced its first show, 'N uff Z' in the Papatoetoe High School hall. This was followed by a number of Gilbert & Sullivan productions for which the club built a reputation, drawing cast members from far and wide.

In 1963, North Shore Operatic Society was founded by a group of passionate Auckland residents after answering an invitation in the newspaper to attend a get to together and sing the songs of Gilbert and Sullivan. Fifty years, over 100 shows, several venue changes and many loyal, talented members later, North Shore Music Theatre as it's now called, is an award winning theatre company which produces some of the best productions in Auckland.

Papakura Theatre Company (Inc.) started out as the Papakura Drama Club in 1954. More than sixty years later, having had two changes of name, Papakura Theatre Company (PTC) continues to present plays and musicals for the enjoyment of the people of Papakura and beyond. Pukekohe Performing Arts Incorporated (PPA) is Franklins' premier musical theatre company based in the heart of Pukekohe (that's a bit south of Auckland and a bit north of Hamilton). After being established in the East Coast Bays of Auckland in 1952, Mairangi Players Inc moved to Birkenhead in 1972 and has since become known as TheatreWorks. A long-standing community theatre group, we created our own intimate 70 seat theatre which is available for hire, and produce several shows each year as well as run classes.

The Torbay Dramatic Society was founded in 1952 by Mrs Clyde Tichener. The group initially confined themselves to play readings, which were held at various members houses. Within a year they felt sufficiently confident to demonstrate their abilities to the public.
